"Dedication and knowledge"

About: Rutherglen & Cambuslang Locality Support Service / ICST (Community Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy) Rutherglen & Cambuslang

(as the patient),

In January 2024 I had a drain inserted into my gallbladder. When I was discharged from hospital I was put into the care of the District Nurses from Rutherglen Primary Care Centre. They visited me twice a week, once to make sure that I was OK and the second time to change the drainage bag.

I'd like to express my heart felt thanks to the Nurses who were invariably kind and professional. Nothing was too much trouble and any questions I had were answered knowledgably. I was given two telephone numbers, one for during the night and one for during the day, in case I panicked and I did. Even when I panicked I was treated with kindness and consideration and again, nothing was too much trouble. I phoned one Sunday morning just before 6 because my bag was leaking and two nurses came and quietly and without fuss changed my bag and said that it was no trouble. What a relief!

This drain was meant to be removed in March 2024 but because of medical reasons it wasn't and it remained in place until June 2024.  That's a very long time for District Nurses to be seeing the one patient, and they did so without demur.

I think of these nurses often and have never expressed my gratitude in public.  I know it's late (a whole year!) but I just felt that I had to say something because I wanted to acknowledge the importance of the service that I most definitely did not then, or now, take for granted.  I was so very lucky that nobody was on strike, like the strikes that were happening in England at the time.

So, thank you District Nurses at Rutherglen Primary Care Centre, for your dedication and knowledge. It's not a job, it's a vocation.
