"Car parking and access for disabled"

About: Pilgrim Hospital / Dermatology

(as a service user),

Seriously disappointed with the access I have a disabled badge, no spaces so had to park in main car park and wasn't able to get my wheelchair out

No pathway to get to outpatients which meant I was getting later and later had to book in and then walk all the way around d the back into physio to access dermatology

My mobility means walking 25 m s painful and slow so this took ages and by the time I arrived I was in agony

Then appt and then returning to pay for car park and getting back to the car

I wonder why are the dermatology doors not used?

The outpatient clerk, when I asked if there was any way she could ring and ask if I could access the 'short cut' was rude and didn't care that I was in pain

The dermatologist nurse was AMAZING but the parking/ access was dispicable

Hi pictorrf35

I’m really sorry to hear about your experience. That sounds incredibly frustrating, especially when you’re already dealing with mobility challenges. and it must’ve made an already difficult situation much worse. Your feedback is invaluable, and I am sorry to hear that our current arrangements failed to meet your needs.

We understand the importance of providing adequate parking and accessible pathways for all our patients, especially those with mobility challenges. We deeply regret the impact this had on your experience and are committed to improving our services. During 2025 we will be identifying possibilities to implement improvements to our car parking facilities. The door into the dermatology clinic are temporarily closed and this is due to the currently work to expand the A&E department.

It’s great that the dermatologist nurse was supportive, but the rest of the experience definitely needs to be addressed and we have escalated your issues to the manager of the outpatient team at Pilgrim

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and we hope to provide a much better experience throughout 2025.

Regards

Richard Townsend
