"Such high standard of care and dignity"

About: Altnagelvin Area Hospital / Gynaecology FAU (Ward 43) Altnagelvin Area Hospital / Maternity care

(as a service user),

In December 2023, I was referred to Early pregnancy unit due to bleeding in early pregnancy. I was seen by the nurse michelle who did our scan.

Unfortunately we had suffered a missed miscarriage. After I had made the decision for surgical management Michelle  was prompt in our care and got us a bed on ward 43, and we awaited theatre. The team that cared for me, from the ward, theatre and recovery did so with such high standard of care and dignity to myself and my partner.

We then returned again in March 2024 with our second pregnancy for an early scan due to our previous loss. Again we were welcomed by Michelle who remembered us from our previous pregnancy. It felt wonderful for Michelle to give us the news that our pregnancy was progressing and healthy.

I am thankful for the care I received during my time on ward 43 and EPU.

My only concern was regards discharge information in my first pregnancy post theatre. I felt it was minimal and wasn’t given in information on regards to recovery post theatre and when to try for another baby

Newmummy92 thank you for taking the time to provide the EPAU with such positive feedback.

It can be daunting and very nerve racking to come back to the location which stirs up so many difficult memories but I am delighted to hear this was a very positive experience for you and congratulations. It was lovely that you were fortunate to see Michelle again

I am sorry that after your initial pregnancy loss you did not receive the right amount of information you required at that time on discharge. Please be reassured I will take this back to the team to see if there are ways in which we can ensure this does not happen for any other patients who present, under the same circumstances.

Please accept our apologies

Wishing you all the best

Leanne
