My elderly Mum was admitted to the emergency department with an acute delirium recently. She was triaged quickly and shown to a quiet, side room. This really helped given her level or confusion.
The nurses were brilliant and in a few hours she had seen several Dr's, had an ECG ,CT scan and bloods. The staff treated her with respect and kindness at all times. She was very scared and they could not have done more to help keep her calm.
She was admitted to MAU from there and spent about a week on the ward. Although it was busy, she was always well cared for and spoken to with such kindness and compassion. Nicole in particular was brilliant and always knew what was going on, nothing seemed too much trouble and she was very efficient in organising all the follow ups and plans for Mum's discharge.
My brother lives in Australia and rang the ward daily to speak to Mum. The staff were always friendly and willing to get him through to her on the mobile phone. He is very grateful for that - he said he always seemed to speak to Colin and he would like to pass on his thanks to him.
The hospital at home team have also been amazing and it was reassuring knowing they were coming in to see her at home and provided a contact number too for any concerns.
We feel so lucky to have the BGH so close and for my Mum to have received such lovely and compassionate care. We will always be grateful.
