My son attended A&E on a recommendation from phone first as he had swallowed a 1p coin. When we arrived in the Paeds emergency department we were triaged very quickly by nurse Rebekah. She was kind and friendly and was very thorough in carrying out clinical observations and used the metal detector to determine if the coin was lodged in the chest region. Thankfully no coin was detected.

We then went to x-ray and the team felt then that it was not needed as there was no detection on the metal detector. We returned to the department and my son was examined by registrar Conor. He was very attentive and checked my son's heart and lungs, he examined his stomach and had a lovely way when communicating with myself and my son.

He explained that he expected the coin to pass in a few days but reassured me that if any concerns arises or my son begins to feel pain to return to the department.  We returned home within 2 hours.

Overall this was a very quick visit to Paeds A&E and it was a very pleasant experience. The staff deserve recognition for all the hard work they do :)

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience of the paediatric staff at Craigavon’s Emergency department. I will share your feedback with both Rebekah and Conor.
