This was my 2nd time on the postnatal ward having had my first baby 2 years ago. My first experience was awful and after having an emergency section again this time, I was dreading what it would be like again.
However this experience couldn't have been more different than the last time.
The staff were so kind and supportive. I was checked on regularly and kept informed of what was happening. I am vegan and the support workers immediately sourced plant based milk for me and ordered allergen meals without any issue.
I was struggling at time with the pain and staff were quick to assist me, very sympathetic and offer more pain relief. Also due to blood loss, I was dizzy and anemic and they were always making sure I was safe when going to the toilet etc.
I had prodromal labour for 2 weeks prior and then didn't get any sleep at all whilst staying due to other babies and patients (expected) however did mean I was so sleep deprived. The 2nd night my baby was so unsettled and staff continuously checked on me. They took baby for cuddles to try let me sleep, helped me with the breast pump to try expressed milk for her. They really did everything to help me get sleep but my baby was just not having it haha.
I tried my best to remember names so apologies if they are wrong but special mentions to Carol-Anne who sorted my food and looked after me after my dizzy spell. Charlotte and Ally on the nightshift who did everything to help me get some sleep! You are all stars. There are definitely more and you were all great.
"Lovely supportive staff"
