"This was a horrible experience for my child"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Accident and emergency

(as a parent/guardian),

We attended children’s A&E at QMC Nottingham.   My daughter had bad asthma, we were immediately triaged and given a map, we had to walk across a car park to “NEMS” clearly an outsourced department which said walk in centre when we arrived.

There was many people adults and children and a wait of three hours advertised. This was a horrible experience for my child, many adults with sick bowls and being sick.

We stayed two hours and no triage or check to see if my daughter was fine, we left and used an alternative NHS service.

It seems the NUH has outsourced this service without any care for patient care. NEMS are clearly struggling to deliver this service.

Dear Patient

I am sorry to hear of your daughter's recent need to access our services, please be assured that she was sent to the right place and that NEMS are better suited to seeing patients that can wait and be seen by a GP.

We understand that this can be frustrating and are glad that you were able to get her seen via another service, if you would like me to follow this up please email our colleagues at PALS via the email address nuhnt.pals@nhs.net and we will look into this further for you.

In the meantime, please be assured that your comments have been shared with the senior management of the children’s department and NEMS.

Kind regards,

Janice

Matron for Children’s Accident and Emergency.
