I attended the allergy clinic with my three-year-old non-verbal, autistic daughter. It was pretty daunting for us both. She was to be skin pricked to confirm anaphylaxis or the possibility whether she could be milk trialled.
My daughter has had a pretty tough start and has been in and out of hospital. Quite like myself, I met many doctors that have really helped us and some that haven't quite as much.
I met Carol, Carly and Cara. They were all fantastic. The two nurses were so very helpful and patient with my daughter and even came to play with her when I ended up upset, taking in all the information.
I mainly need to thank Carol. Someone that just got me. She also made a call to nursery, as sadly they've been failing my daughter and not taking her allergies as serious as they should be. She really spent the time with one and went through everything.
It's very sad and scary to admit. I have a three-year-old child that is anaphylactic to milk and nobody in the health profession has ever even taken the time to show me how to use an epi-pen, until Carol. I've watched videos terrified.
Her time is something I can never thank her enough for. I thought I should write her, thank you, thank you for taking the time to treat me like a person and a scared mum, instead of a irrational worrying one.
