"Exemplary care"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Chemotherapy Day Unit (Ward 15)

(as the patient),

From entering the day unit, Amy-Lou and Mikaela were, as always, very welcoming and gave me time to talk as I had just had a disturbing call, I also was not feeling great.  Both these ladies were immensely experienced in patient care.  I cannot thank them enough, please pass on my never ending thanks to these wonderful ladies.

All the care staff -  in particular Lorraine, Claire, both Lauras, Kirsty, Lorna, Nicola and Angela -  were very profession and extremely busy . However, as I stated I was pretty upset and the above nurses all smiled and Lorraine and Claire who were looking after me, were patient, thoughtful and exceptionally competent and efficient.

During my regular visits to the day unit, where it is continually busy, I have to say that all the nursing staff are highly skilled, not just in giving my chemo but treating me as an individual who sometimes required more support than chemo.  Without that from competent and adaptable staff, I fear I would need to be admitted to hospital.

The team of nurses are amazing and display at times bewildering skills due to how busy they are, compassionate, courteous and concise information about my care or any delays, which empower me to lift my mind and spirit ready for my chemo. I am astonished at the collaboration between all the staff in the day unit, as I leave, not seeing any of the behind the scenes issues, but feeling that I was the only person who mattered for the duration of my appointment.

Please, please pass on my endless thanks to the team there for helping me through this immensely difficult time, not just my chemo but as a whole person with all that brings, family difficulties, tiredness,  stresses of life etc.  They are all a credit to the NHS and I cannot commend them enough.

The NHS is a wonderful organisation and I feel it definitely requires more funding and staff care as shown above, the staff require recognition for absolutely everything they do, the roles within their job description and those outwith that empower patients to make healthier and informed choices.

I could go on and on about the prestigious staff within the day unit, but I am aware you have other tasks to do.  Please do let them know exceptional they are! Thank you, thank you, thank you.
