"Life after an autism diagnosis"

About: Rotherham CAMHS

(as a parent/guardian),

My child was seen by Dr Wingrove at Rotherham CAMHS after really struggling with school refusal, self harm and anxiety. It was soon suggested that they were likely autistic and had an assessment which confirmed this.

It was a very difficult time for my child and us as a family and we worried about what the future would hold for us all as at the time they couldn’t access much education and really struggled socially.

However, we’re now a few years down the road and I’ve got to say that the diagnosis, care and support we received from Dr Wingrove and her team have led us to a place where we never thought we’d get to.

My child felt seen and improved in confidence immeasurably. They eventually began to engage in education again and were able to attend college with great success. They embraced their neurodivergence and found their tribe. They’re now studying at university and are excelling both academically and socially.

Basically, this is a story of hope for those going through the difficulties that we suffered and also a big thank you to the team for all the work they did with us - it was truly life changing.

Hello,

My name is Caroline Jefferies and I am the Team Manager for the Rotherham Neurodevelopmental service.

Thank you for taking the time to submit your lovely feedback for Dr Wingrove and the team. This has been passed onto them and they are all very appreciative and pleased to hear about your positive experience during the difficult time for your family.

It is brilliant to hear that your child has found their tribe and are now excelling at university and life, and I am sure that your story will provide hope and positivity to other families who are starting on the same journey as your family did those few years ago.

Thank you again, and I wish you and your child all the best for the future.

Caroline
