"An accident"

About: Victoria Hospital / Accident & Emergency Victoria Hospital / Colorectal Unit Victoria Hospital / Pre-assessment Victoria Hospital / Theatres

(as the patient),

After a motorcycle accident in April 2024 I went to hospital A&E and received 13 stiches in my leg. I was told I had 4 broken ribs, one was very badly broken; no treatment required. I had pains in my abdomen but had issues with my bowels anyway and this was nothing new.

I was sent home and on the Sunday I had pain in my abdomen; still thinking I had constipation or something like this, I left it. The pain became unbearable and I went to my GP on the Thursday as became too painful to be normal.

I was sent to A&E and was admitted and emergency operation on my bowel which had ruptured. I had a Hartmann's procedure and I now have a temp stoma which I was advised will be reversed in due course in 6 months.

The treatment saved my life and I am forever grateful for the care I received.

In September/October 2024 I went for the pre-operation tests which went well; assuming I would lose the stoma bag in the next few weeks. To date I have heard nothing.
