"Cancelled functions and education groups in womens"

About: Rampton Hospital

(as a service user),

Functions keep getting cancelled at last minute. Staff will come round from the DRC and get numbers, then last minute staff will tell us its not running because they are being pulled to wards.

Functions are good because it gives us chance to communicate with other people. It helps me to get off the ward so i have a different scenaery.

Pier meeting got cancelled this never gets cancelled so i was quite shocked with that.

Pier meeting is important to me because it is there to raise problems or find out what is happening.

Additionally it happens with education too.

Education helps me and when it is cancelled this is so unfair because it means a lot to me.

It is one of the most important groups because it helps people and when it gets cancelled we are having to stop our work. Education helps us with our communication, helps us to understand other groups and different topics. If it gets cancelled it effects our exams, they get put on hold and it effects our learning and prepping for them.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post this feedback, I know as the Occupational Therapy Lead how beneficial these sessions are to patients for all the reasons you have stated and for your progression through your recovery journey.

I am also aware that the hospital is currently facing some challenges at the moment with staffing for lots of different reasons. I attend a meeting every morning to look at this and how we can make the hospital safe, sometimes that does mean we have to cancel some sessions to allow that to happen. I want to let you know that decision is never taken lightly and we will always try and balance activity/therapy with the safety of the wards. Sometimes we can be creative and run some sessions differently but that isn't always possible. I also try and ensure that we rotate what sessions are cancelled so the same sessions don't get cancelled all the time.

I know the DRC team and the different disciplines do an amazing job and I will make sure they know how much you value the services they provide.

Thanks Kay

Hi,

Thank you for expressing your concerns regarding DRC evening activity cancellations.

I would like to acknowledge that staffing shortages have unfortunately impacted the DRC team being able to deliver the sessions we would normally offer.

I would like to stress these decisions are not taken lightly and we understand the importance in maintaining a consistent programme for you.

Also please be reassured that the hospital management structure are making every effort to ensure that TES activities and patient meetings go ahead as planned and have incorporated various strategies to do so.

To conclude I would just like to thank you for your feedback and both your understanding and patience as we work through these challenges.

Should you have any further queries or concerns please do hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards

Lee Buttle

DRC Manager
