"Same day care fairfield"

About: Fairfield General Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a service user),

Rang 111 with concerns regarding pain cramp and calf swelling. Due to past TAI 22 months ago they where adamant I had to be seen to rule out dvt. A appointment was arranged. You have to do the daft pointless booking in A&E before your told to go where your appointment is. I found this a total waste of time. All they appear to do is bp and symptoms before you get moved and repeat everything all over again. I think its pointless giving you a appointment time as told abruptly there is no booked appointment times, oh ok right.

I waited and waited some more to be called through to yes you know the drill bp bloods that you’ve had at A&E. Told to yes you guess right back and wait and wait. Apparently it can be up to a shocking 3 hrs. Fortunately I was called after about 1 and a half hours. Great getting somewhere finally.

No asked the same symptoms questions you’ve already answered in A&E. Told bloods are negative. Ah I can go now. No still need a scan. Ok no problems. No they only do them Monday to Friday. What I will remember to have a DVT stroke heart attack Monday to Friday in future.

Didn’t really want to return next day and wait again. Was told I definitely would not have to wait again 1.30pm for scan and seen straight after no long waiting. No wrong next day scan done 1.30 perfect.

Here it all goes wrong again, go to same day and yes here we go and wait and wait. Nurse calls me through after forty five minutes to yes bp check. Now this is where enough is enough I know now there is no DVT, nothing so why repeat bp and then be told approximately 3 hrs wait it could be.

At this point anxiety and sheer fed up boredom at repeating tests and pointless questions on a repeat loop. After being left in the past with a tia suspected heart attack I had had enough and left in sheer tears and frustration.

An explanation would be appreciated .Thank you for ruining my birthday one I didn’t think I would be here for after a tia. I'm so angry

Dear Service User

Thank you for taking your time to share your experience of attending the Same Day Emergency Care at Fairfield General Hospital.

We were sorry to hear that you were unhappy with their procedures, regular observation checks and the time you had to wait during your attendance.

As your post is anonymous, we encourage you to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) either via 0161 778 5665 between 09:30 hours and 16:30 hours Monday to Friday or email pals@nca.nhs.uk. This will allow the PALS team to accurately identify your care episode, investigate and provide you with feedback.

In the meantime, we have escalated your post to the senior leadership team, so they are aware of your experience.

Kind regards
The Patient Experience Team

This is the same generic response that is sent out to everyone. PALS didn't reply to my email and I’m still waiting for a response a week later from complaints.

Last time it took almost one year to sort out quite serious concerns.
