I attended the GDocs service at Frederick Street Clinic twice over a weekend because I was in increasing pain, and my symptoms were worsening.
I had tonsillitis, which was being treated with antibiotics prescribed by my GP, but by the Sunday I now couldn’t open my mouth, was in intense pain, feverish, and hardly able to speak.
The doctor I met forced my mouth open with a wooden tongue depressor, even after I explained that I was unable to do this, whilst I screamed and cried in pain. They told me this was to look for a quinsy, which they told me I hadn’t.
They sent me on my way with cocodamol and told me there was nothing they could do.
By Monday evening I was so ill, that when I went to my own GP for an emergency appointment they sent me straight up to the hospital. My blood pressure was on the floor and my heart rate was sky high.
Once I got to hospital the ENT specialists confirmed I had a quinsy, which then infected the glands in my neck, and resulted in a 12 day admission on the ENT ward and 3 surgeries. I also developed sepsis.
I feel I was severely let down by the Doctor I saw at the Out of Hours Service in Aberdeen (Frederick Street). Not only did the Doctor put me through excruciating unnecessary pain, but I believe I should have been immediately sent to hospital for an ENT Doctor to review me.
I still feel very let down by the service I received from this doctor, as well as feeling angry at the lack of compassion that was showed towards me as I cried for a long time after they forced my mouth open.
"Put through excruciating pain"
