I have diagnosed CPTSD and Borderline Personality Disorder. I lost my last Psychiatrist due to moving out of the catchment area last year. I have been experiencing extreme fatigue so my GP suggested I stop taking my antipsychotic medication to see if it helped (no advice to taper off, just stop cold turkey). Since I stopped taking them my CPTSD symptoms have increased, especially very distressing flashes leaving me anxious and in a heightened alert state, along with feelings of hopelessness, depression and a lack of interest in things including taking care of myself. I asked my GP to put me back on the medication because of this, however they said it needs to come from a psychiatrist. A referral was sent to adult mental health services, Broxtowe & Hucknall mental health team. The letter I received from them left me in tears!
It was very dismissive of my need for help. Stating that following a discussion in their referral meeting, it was felt that i do not meet their referral criteria...
They went on to advise against prescribing antipsychotics -given there is no evidence of psychotic symptoms.
I only stopped taking that medication because the GP advised it may help with my fatigue and I was willing to try anything. I was on them for good reason for over a year at the prescription of my old psychiatrist. They helped take the edge off my flashes and associated emotional crisis and without them my symptoms have come back and got worse.
This mental health team have dismissed my need for help or care based on the very little information sent over from my GP. Surely they can see from my records that I was prescribed antipsychotics for good reason, and by a psychiatrist and honestly this letter was so poorly worded to the point it made me feel invalidated, abandoned and left to deal with my conditions on my own. They suggested GP give me antidepressants (which I am already taking!) and remain on the list for step 4 therapy.
It seems to me that unless you are actively suicidal or seriously self-harming they just don't care.
Receiving such a dismissive letter from a team who has never even met me to discuss my struggles and get a clear understanding of my need for help is so disheartening. I am left feeling like no one cares and I'm spiraling into a state of 'what is the point'.
I feel the service has just tossed me to one side without proper and careful consideration.
I really don't know what to do at this point.
"Completely dismissed by adult mental health services"
