"Treatment in an emergency"

About: The Ulster Hospital / Emergency Department The Ulster Hospital / Intensive Care Unit The Ulster Hospital / Theatres / Recovery The Ulster Hospital / Ward 5B

(as a relative),

My brother presented at ED feeling very unwell. He was triaged and brought through to a cubicle immediately - from here, all of the tests ,scans , appropriate drs and staff looked after him. He was admitted and the on call consultant contacted, he was so ill a second theatre was opened to facilitate his need for urgent surgery.

Following his operation the dr called me to explain the surgery, the risks and how they needed to maintain him in ICU for a time.

Following his time in ICU he was placed on a ward where he continued to improve.

I feel that everyone my brother came in contact with were there to save his life. Nothing was too much trouble the care and attention he has had over the last few weeks has been wonderful. He is still here because of the wonderful teams in A&E - the surgeons and theatre staff, the dedication of the team in ICU and the  care and compassion of the ward staff.

I have seen the NHS at its best. Thank-you.

Particular thanks to the sister in ED the surgeons from the colorectal team, especially Damian the consultant. Lucy and Joanne from ICU and Alvin from ward 5b

You have all been truly amazing

Dear Slideky85,

Thank you for your lovely compliment. It is wonderful to hear how good your brother's healthcare journey was in our care. I hope he is doing well and wish him all the best for his recovery. I will pass your comments onto the teams and to the staff you have kindly mentioned.

Morning Sideky85

Thank you for taking the time to tell us of you and your brothers experience. It is good to hear how all teams came together at this critical time to do everything they can to care for your brother. Thank you for your lovely comments, I will share them with the ED team. It must have been a difficult time for you both.

Best wishes in his continued recovery
