"Myosure Procedure"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Gynaecology University Hospital Wishaw / Gynaecology (Ward 13)

(as the patient),

I had ongoing pain in my uterus, I was seen by gynecology and advised I would need to have polyps removed. The initial consultant at Monklands hospital did not appear to be that concerned however there was lack of reassurance on their part.

I was nervous as it's a procedure you're awake for and was told I wouldn't be able to try for another child until the procedure was done.

Dr Rana, Fran & Alison at Wishaw Women's Health unit were a great team.

When I was in the room Fran and Alison put me at ease, explaining what would happen and that if I was struggling they would stop right away.

The procedure itself was unpleasant, initial consultant stated it would be slightly uncomfortable.  Honesty in that situation would have been better, given the nature of the procedure knowing this would have taken the shock away.

Fran and Alison continued to check on me during the procedure and offer words of support.

Dr Rana was very professional and after explained what would happen next and again reassure me.

The woman health unit is a great department with very understanding nurses and doctors, I waited 8 months for my procedure however believe that without this unit I would have been waiting significantly longer.

It can be a worrying time attending hospital for a procedure and I am so pleased to hear that Dr Rana and her nursing team were able to reassure you and put your mind at ease during the procedure. Open communication is key to making you feel comfortable and I am glad to hear that you were talked through everything and there was no pressure to do anything that made you uncomfortable. I note however, that how unpleasant the procedure would be was not highlighted to you when you attended the clinic at Monklands and please accept our apologies this was not communicated effectively.

I will be delighted to pass on your kind words and thanks to the whole team and I am sure this will give them a real boost.

I hope you are keeping well.

Kind Regards,

Karen Donnelly
