"Amazing care"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Patient Transport Service University Hospital Hairmyres / Coronary Care Unit University Hospital Hairmyres / Theatres, Recovery & Anaesthetics University Hospital Wishaw / Cardiology (Ward 4) University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I presented at Wishaw A&E on the morning of Monday mid February 2025. I'd had, what I thought was bad indigestion throughout the night, it changed into a pain in the chest by morning, at this point it seemed wise to get it checked. I was triaged very quickly, blood tests and ecg were taken.

I was then sent to x-ray and returned to the small waiting area near triage. I was told within the hour that I'd had a heart attack the night before. I was then told I would be transferred to Hairmyres where the coronary team would check me over.

I'd been given morphine hence my grasp of timings is a bit hazy at this point.

In the afternoon I was bluelighted over to Hairmyres, the paramedic crew were excellent, kept me relaxed and upbeat.

Within 10 minutes of arriving at Hairmyres I had angioplasty and a balloon was used to open the offending artery, I was allowed to watch this on a large screen which was fascinating and really helpful.

I was in the coronary care unit at Hairmyres overnight, again the staff were wonderful, I felt very well cared for. I was transferred to the coronary care unit at Wishaw (again the paramedic team were great) and remained there until the Friday afternoon when I was discharged. Again the staff were all wonderful.

The care I received was beyond reproach, friendly, professional staff at every point, I couldn't fault them if I wanted to.

The only thing I could say could be better would be the food, as a vegetarian there was little choice and ironically none of it seemed 'healthy'. This is a minor gripe on what was an exceptional care experience.

Hi Jazzms207,

Sorry to read about your recent heart attack and I hope you are doing ok.

I'll leave my colleagues in NHS Lanarkshire to respond to the points about your wider care but I wanted to thank you on behalf of the Scottish Ambulance Service for your kind comments about our staff. I'm really pleased to hear that their care was excellent and that despite everything you were going through, they were able to keep you relaxed and upbeat.

Thanks again for taking the time to share this positive feedback, it is much appreciated.

Mark

Dear Jazzms207,

Thank you for sharing your experience at University Hospitals Hairmyres and Wishaw.

I am sorry to hear that you needed to attend hospital and that you had had a heart attack. This must have been so frightening for you. I am glad that you were quickly triaged and assessed by the team in ED and referred on to the Coronary Care Unit at Hairmyres who have all looked after you so well.

I will ensure all the teams involved in your care received your very kind feedback and I am sure they will be delighted to hear this. I will also ensure that your comments about the food and food choices are passed to our contracts manager so they can review this further.

I hope you are recovering well.

Best Wishes,

Jenni
