Since my type 2 diabetes diagnosis at Cedars Surgery, the support I have been offered has enabled me to reverse my condition and change my outlook on life dramatically. I joined the weekly walking group for 6 weeks at the start and although I couldn’t imagine that this would change anything, I’m amazed and glad to say that it did. Receiving helpful tips on the things I could do to make positive changes helped me with the overwhelm I had about all the information ‘out there’. Being part of a group with the same challenges and having this opportunity to connect with them to share our experiences once a week became something I looked forward to and when I started to apply the knowledge I was given I saw changes in my state of mind and my eating behaviours quite quickly. Not long after that I was invited to a series of indoor group sessions where I received more education on how food, sleep, stress all played a part in diabetes and was able to reflect on what I was doing and set my own simple goals for things I would change. I lost 2.5 stones in a few months and am now eating and exercising in the right way to build strength and lose a bit more bodyfat to aid the lowering of my blood pressure and am seeing great results. I’m so grateful for the support I received and for the wonderful team who put this all together for us. It has changed the direction my life was going in and instead of being frightened and worried, I am honestly quite excited about my future now and enjoy my days instead of dreading them and using junk food to deal with the feelings. And I look good again, which is great. My numbers which were of concern have all come down. Thanks again to the whole team behind this great initiative!
