About: NHS Grampian / North East Scotland Breast Screening Centre

(as the patient),

I was invited to attend for Breast Screening (3 year cycle) in my local area of Huntly, Aberdeenshire. Unfortunately there was a technical issue with the Screening Vehicle on the day I was due to attend and the screening could not be carried out. However, I was contacted by telephone from the Breast Screening Service in Aberdeen apologising for the inconvenience and received another appointment that day to attend for screening in Aberdeen 2 weeks hence which I took and luckily that appointment was on a day I wasn't working.

This is a 100mile round trip for me. I then received a call the following day to say the technical issue with the vehicle had been resolved and I was offered another appointment in Huntly the following week which I attended. The service I received when I attended from the Radiographer Donna was excellent. I did verbally thank Donna and said the service was excellent and that I was very pleased not to have had to travel to Aberdeen. Having local services is really important.  So thank you to NHS Grampian Breast Screening Service.

Thank you for taking the time to leave such positive feedback regarding the Breast Screening Service we have here in Grampian. We have 2 mobile vans for our community work and although work well the majority of the time, they do as you say throw up the occasional technical issue. I am glad that the communication you received gave a solution to attend Aberdeen which helps in these situations but can absolutely understand the relief when an appointment became available locally for you. The 100 mile round trip, is exactly why our mobile units work so well in the community and the ladies attending really appreciate having this service on their doorstep.

Thank you for mentioning one of our Radiographers, I will ensure that Donna is signposted towards this compliment. Our Administration Team will also be encouraged to read this, they strive to rearrange and reschedule locally where they can when situations arise like these.
