"Staff were kind, caring and gentle"

About: Caithness General Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as a service user),

I faceplanked into my face one lunch time recently and needed to go to the A&E Department at Caithness General Hospital as I am currently on blood thinners following a recent heart attack and stroke. My details were given to the A/E receptionist immediately by my husband and within a few minutes I was seen by a Staff Nurse who gently cleaned up and wounds and who dealt with my nosebleed. I was then examined by a doctor and a medical student and then sent for CT scan of my head to ensure I had not suffered any further bleeds to my brain.

Throughout the process the staff were kind, caring and gentle with me. They explained what they were about to do and asked my permission prior to carrying the task out. They kept me fully informed as to what they were doing and what they were looking for. Once I had been deemed fit enough to be able to go home, they gave me full information of the circumstances for which I should immediately return to A&E and how to deal with the pain and what to expect over the coming few days/weeks. All staff were professional and I felt safe with them. I was assessed within a few minutes of being there and I left just over an hour later. I couldn't fault any of the A/E or the CT scanning staff.
