I was taken by ambulance to the Coronary Care Unit having been diagnosed with a "cardiac event" after being seen as an emergency at another hospital some 100 miles away.
My condition was stabilised in CCU over the next couple of days and then an angioplasty and stenting was carried out. I was the nightmare patient that many hospital workers dislike - a retired nurse, who doesn't like being a patient and is extremely terrified of undergoing a procedure because a previous similar procedure had gone very wrong resulting in a stroke and kidney failure.
However all the CCU staff took time to listen to my concerns and Peter (Consultant) explained clearly how they would mitigate the risks involved of me reacting badly to the procedure. The staff are all very cheerful and approachable and they clearly work well as a team. Everyone from the staff cleaning the ward, the Health Care Support Workers, Staff Nurses & Lead Nurse, Doctors and many many more) treated with kindness, and respect. They didn't just assume I knew things because I was a nurse and they asked if I need further information. They patiently answered my questions (which I had many) and as my memory isn't what it was I asked the same questions several times - yet they all had the patience to help me understand my situation. They listened to me verbalise my fears without ridicule and a hand on my shoulder was given for reassurance. The CCU are good quality staff, who actually care. I am so impressed and if I was young enough and lived close enough I would be applying for a job to work there! You impressed me that much!
"All good quality staff"
