"can't leave ward"

About: Altnagelvin Area Hospital / Gynaecology FAU (Ward 43)

(as a service user),

Had to stay overnight, being told I can't leave ward to get water from machine and i have to drink tap water, even tho I'm don't drink tap water at home, we boil it first and cool it down to drink to get rid of germs, so I'm meant to sit here and either drink tap water or dehydrate?

Uniformnh84 I am very disappointed to hear of your experience within Ward 43 when you needed to stay overnight. Unfortunately the ward does not have a water dispenser and whilst this may be disappointing for pts it is for infection prevention and control reasons to ensure health and safety of all pts.

For those pts unable to leave the ward due to their clinical circumstances and unable to drink tap water, we would always advise pts family/ friends to bring in water if we are unable to source bottled water for them. I am sorry this did not happen for you.

I have shared your concerns with the Ward manager and if agreeable you can reach out to either of us to discuss further as we aim to make every pts experience within our services a positive one.
