"Care received in ICU"

About: Royal Oldham Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a service user),

I had been poorly for a round 2 weeks, contacted GP on two occasions. Rang 111, told to go to A&E.

The care received was above and beyond at first, said will investigate what is going on as had swelling and struggling to walk and had confusion, which wasn't normal for 50s year old.

Was 3 hour wait for doctor but was put top of the soon as bloods came back.

Saw doctor in A&E and straight into critical care in bed, which at moment not many people can say this.

Had a dye scan and then told going to move me soon within 12 hours of being since was in ICU.

Spent next day having test and scans.

Blood clot operated on and lungs drained via my back.

By day 4 was in a coma for a week.

Told had several virus, fluid on lungs and Septics.

No idea what caused it asked several questions never going to know.

Spent 40 days in ICU, also 7 days in isolation and caught rare virus, even thou nursing staff cleaned at end of each shift.

Staff was very friendly and did everything to make me as comfortable as they could.

I am lucky I am still here to write this as told could of died.

Can't thank staff at Oldham Hospital ICU enough.

There was no ward beds on discharged from ICU so they used virtual ward as to keep check on my health like obs and nurse on all.

If obs not done then the tech team would ring me.

They did everything they could to help with recovery.
