Before I saw the consultant I had to have an xray. I was advised by the nurse auxiliary where X-ray was, he was very nice and jolly.
I was called in to have my scan and there were 2 staff members, one was a student radiographer who helped me get my coat off and sling. For reference I have a fractured shoulder. She asked what happened and I told her about the journey I have had from falling to having an x-ray and told my shoulder was fine then having to go privately for an ultrasound. I was advised by physio and gp that I might have ruptured tendon due to pain 2 weeks after fall but having the scan it was discovered my shoulder was broken.
As I was telling the student the other radiographer asked if I'd had an ultrasound, which I confirmed, and they then said you can’t see broken bones on ultrasound. I said well it was seen when I had my ultrasound, they then said that’s unusual, I said well if you check encompass you will see my scans and private report and these were discussed at the fracture meeting. They then replied very strange. I have never felt so humiliated! It felt like they doubted my word.
I have been suffering for 4 weeks! For 2 weeks I was walking about with a broken shoulder because a different hospital didn’t see it. I was fortunate to be able to go private. I also work in the field and I know what happens with scans and meetings and I also know the morning I had my ultrasound scan the consultant radiologist showed me my whole arm and shoulder in detail. I will not be spoken to like that by a member of staff. I can handle myself but it’s the patients after me, can they.
