My world collapsed a few months ago when I was diagnosed with bowel cancer after doing a bowel screening test, however the care I have received from the MacMillan nurses has been phenomenal. I have felt like I have had a personal nurse to call on throughout the whole process, I met them at the endoscopy unit, and they called to check in on me the next day.
My scan was swiftly organised and I was called with the results as they came in. I was kept fully informed throughout and felt very well cared for. I had to call numerous times for support after my surgery and I was never made to feel a bother, in fact I always felt that they were pleased to hear from me.
I am now on my road to recovery and can say that having them look after me for the next 3 years is very reassuring.
The treatment however at Crosshouse hospital from my surgeon left a lot to be desired, I found them very dismissive from the outset, explained very little, and so quickly, I did not understand. I felt I was treated like an object while in hospital - not a person. If it was not for my nurse being confident in abilities I would not have gone through with the surgery.
