I thought I had irritable bowel for some time but began having uncontrollable bowel trouble in the street, car, shops. Following 2 examinations GP assured me it definitely wasn’t cancer but could be Crohn’s disease or diverticulitis. I was delighted to be told it wasn’t cancer and waited for a colonoscopy appointment to find out what it was.
Then I began passing blood, saw a different doctor, urgent tests were ordered and after having waited 9 months was given a colonoscopy, which couldn’t be completed owing to a large tumour in and through my colon.
In early 2024 I was admitted to Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy where I underwent surgery by Mr Robertson and his wonderful team. The care and support from them and the nursing staff was amazing, I was supported through so much as there were complications which led to a longer stay in hospital. They definitely all went above and beyond the call of duty and I cannot thank them enough for the care I received.
I had ‘belt and braces’ chemo for 6 months, under the care of Dr Clive, who also was so professional but down to earth and approachable in the loveliest way. Owing to picking up a few viruses once I was home, I had another couple of stays in hospital and each time the treatment by the staff was first class.
Recently, I had my anniversary colonoscopy, done by the wonderful Mr Robertson and his team and again, it all went like clockwork, everything was explained and they made it feel so easy, it was like meeting old friends. I am blessed to be cancer free and owe this and my life to those fantastic people who work for the NHS. Many many thanks to every one of you, from a very grateful patient.
"Blessed to be cancer free"
