"This group has had a profound positive impact on me"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Parkinson's Service

(as a service user),

After receiving my Parkinson’s diagnosis l was referred to my fantastic Parkinson’s nurse Suzanne and apart from all that she does for me at normal appointments she also offered the opportunity to sign me and my partner up to the 11 week power up group in Barnstaple, having been newly diagnosed with PD it’s a lot to take in and deal with from questions/anxiety/depression/loss of motivation and so on so agreed to attend the power up group.

I must say it has been the best decision I made so far on my Parkinson’s journey from week 1 being part of a newly diagnosed group of people that share the same challenges really helps me and my wife who also attends the weekly meeting and we are so glad to have this available in our area.

The weekly meeting is so well structured with partners having their own space to discuss and share their experiences of living with someone that has a partner with PD while separately we have had a variety of exercises such as circuits/pilates/boxing and many more exercises all to help with the symptoms of Parkinson’s at the end we all come together and have discussions on Parkinson’s related issues the info provided has been very informative and answered many people’s questions and anxieties to do with all aspects of PD from medication to what benefits are available it has also introduced us to free groups available in the area

Now with only 1 week left to go I must say this group has had a profound positive impact on me, my motivation to keep active and positive going forward is all down to this group and I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to attend such a great group at the start of my Parkinson’s journey.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of Power UP! I am so pleased to read that it has had such a positive impact on you and your partner.

Post power UP! please consider joining the local Parkinson's UK branch (if you haven't done so already ) by sending your details to members.nd@gmail.com - they run a number of free exercise classes plus coffee mornings. It is a great way to keep in touch with those who you've been working with over the past 10 weeks.

Thank you again for you valuable feedback.
