"Hospital Scans and Claustrophobia"

About: General practices in Tayside

(as the patient),

I have been diagnosed with prostate cancer and have needed to go through a variety of tests. The main challenge to me during these tests are my feelings of claustrophobia when having an MRI scan and Whole Body Bone scan.

I thought I could go to my doctor and be prescribed a gentle sedative to help my fears. I was absolutely shocked and disgusted when told doctors in Tayside can no longer give sedatives for flying or cases of Claustrophobia. I think this is shocking.

Do the people who make these decisions understand the stress and trauma it is to have claustrophobia? What are patients meant to do when they are turned away with no support? I worked for 39 years paying my dues along the way. I cannot even now get one pill.

This scheme of refusing medication to genuine users has to stop.
