I had cataract surgery on my right eye early December 2024 Since then I have suffered ongoing pain and blurred vision in that eye, coupled with that I experience occasional nausea and debilitating giddiness and loss of balance. The treatment until this appointment has been first class, caring and gentle, even the placing in my eye and removal of a intraocular nonfocal contact lens when being examined was gentle and professional. The lens was to prevent scratching of the eyes surface to reduce irritation. I have had numerous outpatient visits since the surgery in various clinics, South Molton, and several at NDDH outpatients eye clinic.
However my appointment in early March 2025 at NDDH outpatients was most distressing, the staff member I saw was brusque, uninterested in anything I said, they were rude and short tempered and kept raising their voice telling me to keep the eye open, I felt this was impossible as they kept poking their finger in my eye trying to remove the contact lens and hurting my eye. They did manage eventually to remove it but caused me considerable trauma in the process and my eye has been very blurred and painful ever since.
They wrote a prescription before I left and I took it to the chemist on the way home. The chemist said that they didn't understand what the staff member was requesting. I was asked to call back to the chemists after four days when they hoped to have sorted out what was required on the prescription, however to date no joy. I do live out in the sticks about 10 miles from the chemist so cannot check every day.
I have to say that until this last appointment the care has been not just caring but highly professional. I am reticent about complaining which is one reason I haven't written before, however if I feel that they are unaware just how upsetting they can be.
"Distressing appointment"
