"I felt really let down by this service"

About: Children's Specialist Health Services / Neurodevelopmental Service (NDS)

(as a service user),

I felt really let down by this service. My son was referred for further assessment through his high school.

I am aware of the long waiting time and we decided to access assessment privately due to same. I was told following private consultation through a reputable service to proceed with further assessment for both adhd and autism.

I contacted the neurodevelopment service to make enquires regarding his referral and waiting times, however was advised that his referral was not accepted when it was received a year ago.

This was apparently communicated to my GP and neither myself or the school was made aware of this. I feel relieved that I do have the option to continue his assessment privately and can already see how much my son is benefiting through going through this process.

I am hoping however by providing feedback that this might help the neurodevelopmental service improve their referral service to hopefully get it right for every child.
