At the beginning of the week I was supposed to be 11 weeks pregnant and unfortunately started to bleed. I had called the early pregnancy unit and was informed they wouldn't be able to see me until the end of the week (a long wait during one of the worst times in your life), so I went private and was seen that day elsewhere, where it was confirmed our baby had stopped growing.
Fast forward to the end of the week, I had my appointment with Michelle in the Early Pregnancy Unit. Michelle was great, very empathic - confirmed our baby loss, informed me of all my options, I had a clear plan of what was next.
Unfortunately we didn't get to do that plan as my body attempted to miscarry itself, resolving in blood loss and not being fully complete.
I presented in A&E on the weekend, was triaged very quickly. I was seen by an amazing Dr Ruth who despite being very busy was fully present and empathic during our consultation. Ruth kept me fully informed of the plan and I truly felt that Ruth would advocate for me and ensure I got the right care. That feeling wasn't wrong- although a short interaction Dr Ruth is definitely one of the best.
I was then taken to ward 43 by a lovely nurse. Quickly assessed by another Dr who called in a senior to do a transvaginal scan. Apologies as this is probably not the Dr's name and I wish I had written it down but I was seen by a Dr Olgo. 3 years ago I have an awful experience with consultants when giving birth to my son, so I was a bit apprehensive but from the moment I met this Dr - I had complete trust in him. He took a good time to do my scan being very thorough - he told me my options. I was admitted to Ward 43 and stayed for 24 hours, every single nurse, assistant and cleaner was lovely - a very clean, calm and controlled ward. I was seen again the next day by Dr Olgo who again did a thorough scan and thankfully the plan had worked. Dr Olgo knows his stuff but he is so down to earth, calm, full of information and ensures me the patient feels in control. I only wish anytime I need medical attention that it was with someone so skilled.
Burial options were discussed in a sensitive way and here I am home and recovering 24 hours later.
Although things have not worked out how I hoped, I am glad that I can look back on this devastating time of my life knowing that I was treated with compassion, intelligence and also professionals with good people skills. Thank you.
