"An extremely long wait for a doctor appointment"

About: Peter Street Surgery

On Wednesday 12th March I had a phone consultation with a lady doctor (I can provide her name if necessary) concerning my Umbilical Hernia, I explained that I've had this for many years but during the last few months it had dramatically increased in size and I was becoming very concerned about it, particularly the risk of strangulation, which I know from the NHS website is a medical emergency and as I live alone was most concerning, we discussed things for some time, she was very helpful and understanding and said she would refer me for a scan.

Wednesday 9th April (four weeks after first consultation) Ultra Sound Scan at the surgery,

Tuesday 22nd April (six weeks after first consultation) phoned for results of scan, the receptionist looked them up and advised me that I needed to make an appointment with a doctor and advised me that the next available appointment was Tuesday 3rd June (six weeks away) she also said I could phone occasionally to see if there were any cancellations which may enable me to have an earlier appointment. This means it would be twelve weeks since the original phone consultation, I do not consider that this is an acceptable wait for what is a potentially serious condition. I have no complaints about all staff involved and treatment I received, it appears to me that the system is not fit for purpose. I fully appreciate the extreme stress the NHS is under but even once I have had an appointment there will no doubt be further delays before I receive the necessary treatment, probably surgery
