"Having a gastroscopy"

Thank you for taking the time for leave us some feedback via Care Opinion.

Regarding your Gastroscopy and the use of throat spray, it is a difficult situation to inform patients of, especially as different patients will have different physical feelings about it when applied. Essentially though, the receiver of the throat spray does not need to be face on to receive the full benefits and the spray nozzle is angled so all areas can be covered.

During the initial paperwork and information gathering, there is a specific question ensuring that we check that a patients bladder is empty, and all staff who admit a patient should complete this. On this occasion, it would appear that you have not been asked and for that I would like to apologise. I also severely hope and pray that you were not caused any indignity because of this. I will raise this issue at the Safety Huddle tomorrow morning and remind all staff that this question must always be asked of a patient and for the very reason you have highlighted.
