My Dad was recently admitted to GRI ward 46 with heart problems. I went to pick him up when ready for discharge. My timing was not ideal as handover was underway. I asked to speak with the Nurse who had been looking after him and was told someone would be with me shortly. The Nurse who had been looking after him came out of the ward & spoke to me & told me anything I needed to know was in the letter. My Dad told me he wasn't to drive but he had no idea why or how long for. Again I was told read the letter. The Nurse in my opinion was very abrupt and brusque. I ask again because the letter did not contain this information. Again I was told read the letter. I am a health professional myself and was shocked and ashamed of a fellow professional responding in this way. My Dad is in his 80s, his memory is poor and he is deaf. Due to covid we could not visit him so this discharge conversation was very important for us. Whilst my Dad's care in Ward 46 was good I would like this member of staff to understand how important this conversation was. I appreciate the ward had most likely been very busy, and they had just finished a 12hr shift & it was Christmas Eve however I feel ensuring I had all the information was still part of their job before they finished.
