"Frustation trying to access services"

About: Community Health Services / District Nursing

(as a service user),

Had surgery on my forehead leaving an open wound. The following Monday I had an appointment at LRI to change the dressing. LRI made no further appointment and told me to contact my own surgery or SPA district nurses. My own surgery does not do dressings and told me to refer myself to SPA

I spent the rest of the week contacting SPA, having appointments made and then cancelled by them the day before, being told to attend clinics that are two bus rides away.  I can only walk with a stick. By Friday I managed to get my own surgery to change the dressing.

SPA rang me later that day and I told them this, they said that they would call me on Monday. They did this and they made made an appointment for today

It is now 2:15pm and I am waiting....

We would like to thank you for taking the time to post your comment. We are very sorry to hear that you are still waiting for your appointment with our District Nurse services. This is not the experience we would want any of our service users to have as we try to ensure we provide the best care and treatment for everyone who accesses our services.

If you would like to speak to someone further about the issues you have raised then please contact the Patient Advice and Liaison (PALS) Team by email at lpt.pals@nhs.net or by phone on (0116) 2950830.

Update posted by zulubd66 (a service user)

The nurses never arrived on the Tuesday when I was waiting. When I enquired they told me that they had been and had got no response. I'm sorry but this was just not true, I was waiting just as I had on all the other days.

A nurse finally came on Wednesday, two weeks after the day of my operation. They have been again today (Friday) and I have to say that both nurses were kind and helpful,

I think that the Spa service must have some serious operational problems.

Thank you for your response and we have passed this onto the SPA team so they can improve on the service provided.

In future if you have any concerns please contact the PALS team on 0116 2950830.
