"If I’d have got the energy to get up & walk out I would have."

About: East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust / Patient transport service Pilgrim Hospital / Accident and emergency Skegness Hospital

(as the patient),

My husband took me to Skegness A&E on Saturday night. I was immediately taken through to a room as I had a temp of 40.3 and a raging water infection.

The nurses inserted a canula, gave me antibiotics & paracetamol via a drip & they called an ambulance to take me to Pilgrim Hospital. On the ambulances arrival they were asked to get their trolley bed as I was too weak to walk & then off we went to Pilgrim.

Upon arrival one of the paramedics fetched a wheelchair I was told to get off the bed & walk to the wheelchair by myself. I was then taken into A&E & I asked the paramedic if I could go to the toilet. He pointed in the toilet’s direction when I came out the toilet I noticed the paramedic & walked towards him. He had placed my things on the floor next to a normal chair & he told me to sit in the chair. I said you not leaving me here are you? (A&E was full to the brim) he said yes & walked off that was the last I saw of him.

This was just the start of my awful stay. I already have mental health issues & this made me feel like I was a burden to them. If I’d have got the energy to get up & walk out I would have.
