"They are a credit to the NHS and to their speciality"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Elderly Medicine (Wards 51, 52, 54,55, 57, 8a & 2a)

(as a relative),

My mum passed away in Ward 54 of the QE yesterday. She was very elderly. The care she received from all the staff on ward 54 was so appreciated by us particularly in her final two days when it was clear she was dying. Everything was explained to us and we were given choices about what we wanted for mum and asked about what she would have wanted.

We’d particularly like to thank Claire the registrar who was so honest and kind and helped us make some difficult choices and looked at photos of mum when she was well and commented that it was lovely to see because she didn’t often get to see her very sick patients when they were well. Charlotte the junior doctor on the ward who was so kind to write my sister a letter that allowed her to use her compassionate and sick leave to come back from Australia just in time and who phoned us today and checked we were ok and Liz the staff nurse who looked after mum ( and us ) in her final hours.

They were a credit to the NHS and their speciality. Thank you. Please pass this on to Dr Breckenridge their consultant so that he knows what a great team he has.

Dear Sleepless55

Thank you for taking the time to leave such lovely feedback in regards to your experience of visiting you mum in the Elderly Medicine Ward of the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your mum. I can't begin to imagine the pain and suffering you and your family must be going through during this very difficult time.

It was, however great to hear how you hold the staff that cared for your mum in such high regard. I'm glad you and your family were offered the support and advice you required in your time of need and your mum was given the choices on what she would have wanted in her final days.

I will be sure to pass on your feedback to Dr Breckenridge and the team who I'm sure will be as humbled as I was to read your story.

Kind regards

Kevin
