"This is an exceptional ward with kind and caring staff"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Accident & Emergency Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Day Clinic (Older People’s Services) Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Elderly Medicine (Wards 51, 52, 54,55, 57, 8a & 2a) Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (Ward 62) Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a relative),

Following my elderly Mums breast cancer and mastectomy in the summer where she experienced a positive patient journey she unfortunately had a cerebellum stroke 5 weeks ago.

Again another positive NHS experience for her and our family.

My father called an ambulance for my mum who had collapsed in the bathroom on a Sunday morning which arrived within 10 minutes.

She was seen in A/E and again all the staff including the consultant Dr McGroarty were professional efficient and kind to her.

She was moved to Ward 62 for 2 days where all the staff again were lovely

Finally she was sent to Ward 56 where she remained for 10 days.

I can't praise/thank the staff enough in Ward 56. From the cheery health care assistants including Natalie to the nursing, physio OT ( Sarah ) and medical staff who all looked after my mum. Including the staff who had to sit with her through the night while she had confusion and delirium.

In particular Senior Charge Nurse Sharon who kept the family and my mum informed about her progress  in a caring and helpful way. Ward 56 is an exceptional Ward with kind and caring staff.

Dear Adri26,

Many thanks for taking the time to share your feedback here on CareOpinion. I am so sorry to read about what happened to your mum, that sounds terrifying. I hope that she is recovering well and feeling better and you are all ok.

It is great to hear positive stories about the work the wonderful staff of the NHS provide. If you wish I can pass on any feedback you may have to the crews directly. To do so we would need to know the date, time and address that the Ambulance attended and your mums name. This information can be sent to sas.feedback@nhs.scot for the team to pick up. If you do decide to do this, would you be so kind as to make reference to your CareOpinion username so that the team can easily locate your story and share it with the crew.

I wish you all the very best and thanks again.

Kind Regards

Alan

Dear Adri26

Thank you for taking the time to share your heartfelt story about your mother’s care. We are deeply moved to hear about her journey and grateful that her experiences within the NHS have been positive during what must have been an incredibly challenging time for your family.

Your kind words about the professionalism, efficiency, and compassion of the staff—from the paramedics who responded so promptly to the teams in A&E, Ward 62, and Ward 56—are truly appreciated. It is heartening to know that everyone, including Dr McGroarty, Senior Charge Nurse Sharon, Natalie, Sarah, and the wider healthcare team, played such an important role in supporting your mum and family through her treatment and recovery.

Ward 56, in particular, sounds like it provided the reassurance, care, and support your mother needed during a difficult period of confusion and delirium. The dedication of staff to ensuring she and your family were well informed and cared for is inspiring.

Your gratitude will be shared with the teams and individuals you mentioned, as positive feedback like yours is so meaningful to those working tirelessly to provide exceptional care.

We wish your mum continued recovery and good health and thanks again this really means a lot to the staff.

Kind regards

Kevin
