"Wonderful play worker"

About: Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (Edinburgh) / Play Services

(as a parent/guardian),

My son was 15 when he was diagnosed with Leukaemia. He spent the best part of 10 months in ward Lochranza in the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People, Edinburgh. His play worker in the ward was Emily. We did meet a few other play workers who were all lovely but Emily was our main one. She made sure my son and all the kids always had things to do when they felt up to it. If the kids didn’t want to go to the playrooms she would ensure they had things to do in their rooms. Her attention to detail was amazing and the way she looked after the ward garden was amazing. Emily could not have done more to provide my son with things to do on the ward and she also made such special times on the ward so amazing. Seasonal events and other ward events she always made it all wonderful. For a ward with so much going on and so many sick children, Emily was able to put smiles on all the kids' faces. We will never forget Emily.

Dear Emmamum,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on this platform. I am sorry that your son had to spend so much time in hospital but I am glad that Emily helped to make it a better experience for him.

I manage the play team so will make sure Emily sees these lovely comments. She does put a lot of work into planning seasonal events for the benefit of patients and families so I am glad that your son enjoyed some of these as well as other patients and families in the ward.

We appreciate that everyone has busy lives so thank you again for taking the time to post these comments.

Kind Regards

Margaret McEwan
